Edgewood Academy’s All-Star Football Quartet Lights Up the AISA All-Star Game

The team had its four All-stars flying all over the field on Thursday night.

The four seniors of Gabe LeMaster, Brody Whitt, Will Reeves and Tanner Trucks made it to the Eastern team competing at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery in the AISA All–star football game.

Every player got his chance of starring when the East beat the West, 48-38.

The defensive back, LeMaster, registered four takedowns accompanied by an interception. Trucks was a defensive player who was targeted in two passes. In one of these passes he made one pass defense.

Offensively, they deployed Reeves in the center of their guard line and he spearheaded East’s three scoring efforts during the game. Whitt received five catches from the quarterback of which one was scored as a 25 yarder touchdown reception.

“This was really fun” says edgewood coach Chad Michael, who coached the defense. “We have got a very good team that does it the proper way. I am so honored because I am so damn proud to them and for their performances tonight”. Nothing could give me more pride than that. Playing with them for the last time, coaching them, and having good times with them throughout the holiday season is a blast.

The West suffered a whipping by the East team.

Reeves began as a left guard and drove to the ground of the East as it scored the first point for three passes. When the West got possession of the ball, they went at LeMaster and he had a big time hit near the sideline.

The East was trailing behind after one fourth by a score of 21-0.

Eventually, West started testing Trucks at defensive back down by 21 points. Scrambling rightwards, Trucks moved to follow his man right across the field on the busted plan and break-up a fantastic streak, forcing an incomplete pass.

Shortly afterward, he provided another interception in a go route and his team had taken advantage by leading 28-0 for half time.

With the start of the second half West scored two quick touchdowns and reduced the deficit to 28-14, however, Whitt quashed any thoughts of comebacks.

He got back-to-back passes which led East’s 25-yard line after which he was awarded a go-route down the right sideline.

His defensive back was burned and he hit him in stride for a 25 yard TD. To the east’s dismay, he celebrated with a dance in the end zone while it was game over for the west comeback effort.

Whitt said, “It felt good to score.” We had our quarterback throw the dimes. I had two good passes thrown to me. It was a fake block, and I went right around him.

However, the football players were not the only athletes from Edgewood Academy who participated.

Recently, an individual by the name of Katelynn Shaner assisted Edgewood to clinch its fifth consecutive volleyball state title as a starting libero.

She also played half-time with other cheerleaders from the East Team.
